The European Union could “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the United States against five European individuals working on combating digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official stated.

European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’

European leaders such as the French president accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on figures who have been central to campaigns to introduce legislation governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have led organised efforts to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” stated a senior US official online. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
